Solar Victoria’s Interest Free Loan offer: How it works
An interest-free loan sounds almost too good to be true, but the Victorian Solar Homes Program loan is real, and here's exactly how it works alongside your rebate.
What Is the Solar Vic Interest Free Loan?
Alongside the Solar Homes Program rebate, eligible Victorian households can opt in to an interest-free loan of up to $1,400 matching the value of the rebate to help cover the remaining cost of a solar system. It's a genuine zero-interest loan, no collateral required, repaid directly to Solar Victoria over four years in small monthly instalments ($29.17 a month on the full $1,400).
Am I Eligible?
Eligibility comes down to a few things, not just income:
Combined household income: your combined taxable household income needs to sit under the current cap. This changed on 1 July 2026, dropping from $210,000 to $150,000. The loan and rebate amounts themselves haven't changed, only the income threshold test.
Property value: the property needs to be valued under $3 million based on council rates notice.
Rebate history: the address must not have already received a Solar Homes rebate and shouldn't have had a solar system installed in the last 10 years.
Approved installer: the system has to be installed by a Solar Victoria approved retailer using NETCC-accredited installers, CBR are accredited and approved.
How the Loan Works Alongside the Rebate
The loan and the rebate are separate entitlements, but most households elect to opt in for the Interest Free loan alongside the rebate. One thing to know: you need to opt in to the loan at the time you apply, it can't be added on afterwards. Both the rebate and the loan (if you take it up) are applied as point-of-sale discounts, reducing your out of pocket invoice to CBR. Neither is paid as cash into your account.
